The creation of a Community Garden in place of the former allotments in Middleton took a big step forward on Saturday 26th November, 2022. Working with Broughton and Milton Keynes Village Parish Council (the site owners), Community Trees MK organised more than 60 community tree planters to put 400 trees in the ground in two new copses. They complement the big trees planted last year as part of ‘The Queen’s Green Canopy’.
The trees were a mix of British native species – Rowan, Goat Willow, Dog Wood, Wild Cherry, Hazel, Blackthorn, Field Maple, Hawthorn, Dog Rose – with some June Berries for the birds and pollinators, and they were planted carefully with a good mulch of wood chippings and spiral tree protectors to give them the best possible start.
It is hoped that the Garden will be opened as soon as possible after the new copses and wild flower meadows have settled in.
